Maunawili has been a second "home" for the last 20 years when I began teaching there as a special education teacher in 1988. It is amazing to think that that much time has passed by already. I greatly enjoy seeing and hearing from former students and staff members, however, it never fails that former students have to TELL me who they are (lol) -- they change so much from elementary school! :)
After eleven years of teaching at Maunawili, I am now the technology coordinator. Sue Watanabe retired (many of you will remember her), and the position always presents a challenge of keeping up with the changes and implementing the worthwhile ones. We are excited to be using electronic SmartBoards, document cameras and projectors in many of the rooms, along with classroom responders that enable each student in a classroom to click on an answer and the results are immediately displayed in a graph on the electronic board!
Many changes have transpired at Maunawili through the years. One of the biggest was the renovation we experienced several years ago. Many former students wouldn't recognize the classrooms and it has created a much nicer atmosphere to work and learn.
I hope you will all take a moment if you haven't explored Maunawili's website, to venture forth and see all the different pages posted. The teachers at Maunawili are some of the few who regularly update their classroom webpages and our school is one of the few schools that have all teachers posting web pages.
Maunawili has experienced four principals since I began teaching there. First there was Judy Wicker (I believe she followed Bob Ogata who followed Bev Hanson), then Barbara Teruya, then Arlyne Yonemoto, and currently Ryan Amine is principal. Maunawili has had some amazing and capable people as administrators and I have always been proud of our school for the hard-working staff and the dedication of our administrators. Of course, the students always bring their unique and special imprint to the school!
Would love to hear from you all....
